Who we are
We are a charity called the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).
Our logo is a blue fish.
We help you learn how to keep our oceans healthy. Our website also contains information aimed at parents and teachers to help you learn about the oceans and marine life.
What is this about?
We must keep information about you safe. Information about you is sometimes called 'personal data'. Personal data could be things like:- your name
- your address
- a photo of you
- your email address
- your social media username.
We must tell you when we collect your personal data, what we do with it and where we store it.
Do we collect your personal data?
We don't usually ask you for your personal data. However, when you visit our website some of your personal data will be collected by website cookies.
Cookies are tiny files that transfer onto your device when you use a website. They contain small pieces of personal data, like a username and password, that are used to identify your device. Cookies help us learn how you use our website.
Cookies tell us things like what device you’re using (for example, a phone or computer) and which webpages you visit. Some of our games and puzzle activities are hosted by a different site called Kahoot. Kahoot might also collect cookies. You can turn them off, but not through our website. You need to do this directly with Kahoot.
Why do we collect information about you?
Teaching people about the ocean and protecting marine life will help us achieve our mission to end overfishing. We collect your personal data when you use educational tools and resources we have made for school students looking to learn more about the ocean on our website.
We also collect your personal data when you enter our competitions.
Can we use your personal data for anything?
No. When we collect your personal data via website cookies, we need to follow rules about how we use it. If you say no to cookies, the way our website looks and works may be different for you.
When we ask you if we can use your personal data (for example, when entering one of our competitions) and you can say no. You can contact us to talk about ways you can enter engage with the MSC without sharing your personal data.
We won't share your personal data with anyone else without asking you first (unless we have to, to keep someone safe, for example).
How long will we keep your information?
There are different types of cookies. Some cookies are erased when you close the browser on your website or app. Others stay longer, sometimes forever, and are saved onto your device and will be there when you come back.
We keep other personal data you may share with us (for example, when you enter our competitions or ask us a question) for 2 years. You can ask us to delete your personal data before this.
